Parent managed,
Community minded,
Child focused.

As a co-op, family involvement is integral to the operation of the service and to the continuation of community spirit.
At John Street fostering a strong sense of community where our educators, families and children feel welcome, accepted and supported is of paramount importance. As a co-op, family involvement is integral to the operation of the service and to the continuation of community spirit.
The Board of Management
As the approved provider, The Board of Management including The Centre Director act as the governing body for the service and are responsible for all compliance and operational matters within the organisation. Parents nominated to The Board collaborate with The Centre Director to oversee the strategic planning and management of the service.

In 2026, there are 7 parents on the Board of Management. The Board is elected at the Annual General Meeting for a term of two years on a rolling basis, or as the need arises. All parents are eligible to nominate for the Board. The current positions on the Board are: Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and General Members. Members of the Board make themselves available as practicable for discussion on all issues. The Board meets every month and these meetings are open to John Street CECC staff and parents.

Relationships are integral to a strong sense of community

Participation Hours
Each year we ask families to contribute 6 hours of community service towards the centre. There are many different ways that families can complete these hours. You may join a working bee, share a special skill or interest with your child's class, join an excursion as a parent helper, work as a board member or family liaison. We welcome any ideas families may have on how they could contribute to the centre.

Family Liaison
Each class is appointed a Family Liaison. A self-directed role, the family liaison’s purpose is to organise and support the families from their room in catching up outside of the centre with the goal of building and strengthening relationships within our community.

Centre Functions
To start the year we celebrate with a welcome picnic held in either The Carlton Gardens or Condell Park in February. Throughout the year we enjoy whole centre fundraising functions. Over the years we have enjoyed trivia nights, art shows, silent auctions and live music events. The year wraps up with an end of year picnic held in The Carlton Gardens or Condell Park.
